New pensioner’s checklist

Are you soon retiring? Look through this checklist on important things to remember when you retire.

1. Request a tax card for pension income from the Tax Administration

You will require a separate tax card from the Tax Administration for pension, because pensions are taxed differently from earnings. Request a tax card for pension income from the Tax Administration.

2. Download the Pension and Rehabilitation app

Stay up-to-date with your pension matters and download the Pension and Rehabilitation app on your phone or tablet. You can easily see your pension payment dates, pension amount and your latest documents in the app. The app also includes your digital earnings-related pension card, so that you can conveniently carry it with you always on your phone! You can receive up-to-date notifications and reminders relevant to your situation in the app, so that you never miss an important message.

3. Payment of pension begins

We will notify you of the start date for your pension payment after your pension decision. Your pension will be paid to the bank account you have provided. We will not send any separate notice on pensions that are regularly paid on a monthly basis.

Your pension payment dates depend on whether you have retired from working for the local government or wellbeing services county sectors, the state, church, Kela, or Bank of Finland.

You will find the pension payment dates here: Pension payment dates

The easiest way to check your pension payment dates is in the Pension and Rehabilitation app.

4. How to change your email, telephone number, bank account or address

Please provide your personal email address and telephone number in the My Pension service so that we can contact you as quickly as possible when there is a new document or message for you in our service.

If you want to change the bank account to which your pension is paid, you can easily change it in the My Pension service.

Keva is notified of postal address changes directly from the Digital and population data services agency.

5. Earnings-related pension card for those permanently retired

An earnings-related pension card entitles you to receive pensioner discounts. You will receive a card if you are permanently retired, i.e. on old-age pension, disability pension, or years-of-service pension.

6. If you plan to work while on pension

You may work while on pension. Pension accrues in the amount of 1.5% of annual earnings while working on pension. Depending on your year of birth, pension accrues up to the age of 68, 69 or 70.

You can work without income limits while on old-age pension and partial old-age pension. If you are receiving disability-related pension, there are certain restrictions to your income, i.e. income limits.

Remember that pension accrued from employment alongside pension needs to be applied for separately.
